2240 Policy – Summer School

Bellingham Public Schools summer program of instructional offerings will be for the purposes of remediation, credit ahead and other enrichment opportunities for elementary through high school students.聽 With few exceptions, fees will not be charged for participation. Exceptions include most high school courses which require a registration fee. In the case of high school courses where fees are charged to cover costs for which revenues are not otherwise provided, fees may be waived or reduced for students whose families would have difficulty paying the required fee. The USDA Child Nutrition Program guidelines will be used to determine qualifications for waivers.聽 Families will be informed of the availability of any fee waivers or reductions in the notice of the specific summer school program. In cases where students are on-site for extended time during summer school, meals will be provided through the school district鈥檚 food program in a manner consistent with practices used during the regular school year, including offering free/reduced price meals to students who qualify.
