2414 Policy – Community Service

Bellingham Public Schools recognizes that volunteering connects students to their communities and provides an opportunity for students to practice and apply their academic and social skills in preparation for entering the workforce.聽 The district further recognizes that community service is associated with increased civic awareness and participation by students and can inspire students to continue their education and skill development beyond high school. Students are encouraged to participate in community service activities as a part of their high school graduation requirements. Schools will recognize students for achievement in community service and the district may, in its discretion, include community service in high school graduation/diploma requirements.
