Buying school supplies \u2014 in addition to the many other fees associated with school and activities \u2014 is a financial hardship for many families. Our community generously supports our schools in numerous ways, and so much is already asked of parents related to fundraising and fees. Our schools will purchase the supplies students need for learning, as we do with books and other materials.<\/p>\n<p>Goals:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Reduce the school supply financial hardship to families as much as possible over time;<\/li>\n<li>Eliminate waste for supplies that aren\u2019t used by the end of the year as well as parents\u2019 time and gas money; and<\/li>\n<li>Support families in using time saved from school supply shopping to focus on setting learning goals for the new school year and planning for time and space at home for reading and homework.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>School Supply Lists<\/h2>\n<p><strong>Elementary School:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>School supplies provided<\/li>\n<li>Backpacks only<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Middle School:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>School supplies provided<\/li>\n<li>Students may need ASB cards and will need\u00a0clothes for physical education<\/li>\n<li>Backpacks are recommended\u00a0but not required<\/li>\n<li>No athletic\u00a0participation fees<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>High School:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>School supplies provided, as needed<\/li>\n<li>No course fees<\/li>\n<li>Reduced high school college preparation\u00a0testing fees such as PSAT and Advanced\u00a0Placement (AP) tests<\/li>\n<li>Traffic Safety and Financial Education course (driver\u2019s education) added to high school course offerings<\/li>\n<li>Students will need ASB cards<\/li>\n<li>Backpacks are recommended\u00a0but not required<\/li>\n<li>No athletic\u00a0participation fees<\/li>\n<li>Graduation robes provided on loan; caps and tassels provided to seniors to keep<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Donations<\/h2>\n<p>The main purpose of this\u00a0initiative is to reduce expenses for\u00a0families.\u00a0\u00a0Therefore, we ask that\u00a0families only bring the supplies\u00a0requested.\u00a0\u00a0Families and community\u00a0organizations that want to help are\u00a0encouraged to make a monetary\u00a0donation to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.bellinghamschoolsfoundation.org\/\">Bellingham Public\u00a0Schools Foundation<\/a> in lieu of\u00a0purchasing supplies for a school. This helps ensure equity for students\u00a0by avoiding an abundance of supplies\u00a0at one school and not enough at\u00a0another.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Why do we provide school supplies?
