{"id":687,"date":"2016-04-29T10:27:52","date_gmt":"2016-04-29T10:27:52","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/bellinghamschools.org\/?page_id=687"},"modified":"2024-01-02T13:24:11","modified_gmt":"2024-01-02T21:24:11","slug":"health-services","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/bellinghamschools.org\/families\/health-services\/","title":{"rendered":"Health Services"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Health Services is a team of nurses, health services assistants, and administrative staff working together to promote health and prevent disease.\u00a0 The team supports student health through preventive care such as hearing and vision screening and immunizations,\u00a0by providing acute care and daily management of chronic health conditions, through monitoring and managing infectious diseases, and in coordinating care by communicating with families, students, staff, and community providers to reduce barriers to learning and assure a healthy school environment for all students.<\/p>\n<p>Each school nurse (see below for contact information) supports 2-4 schools and serves as a bridge between healthcare and education to assure that students are healthy, safe, and ready to learn. The school nurse:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Trains, delegates, and supervises staff in the daily management of injuries, illness, and medication needs.<\/li>\n<li>Develops and implements individual health plans and 504 plans for students needing accommodations at school (i.e. life-threatening conditions, chronic medical conditions such as diabetes or asthma, and disabilities).<\/li>\n<li>Coordinates care with student, family, staff, and community providers for the management of acute and chronic conditions.<\/li>\n<li>Makes referrals to health care providers for evaluation of symptoms, immunization compliance, growth and development, hearing and vision screening follow up, and as needed.<\/li>\n<li>Monitors for infectious diseases.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>See our <a href=\"https:\/\/bellinghamschools.org\/families\/health-services\/immunizations\/\">Immunizations<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bellinghamschools.org\/families\/health-services\/medication-at-school\/\">Medication<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bellinghamschools.org\/families\/health-services\/lice\/\">Lice<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/bellinghamschools.org\/families\/health-services\/infectious-disease-prevention-and-management\/\">Infectious Disease Prevention and Management<\/a>, and <a href=\"https:\/\/bellinghamschools.org\/families\/health-services\/please-keep-your-child-home-if\/\">Please Keep Your Child Home If<\/a> pages for more information.<\/p>\n<h2>Annual Health Concerns<\/h2>\n<p>At the start of each school year, we want to know about new or changed health conditions for your child.
