A Message from Superintendent Greg Baker
I hope everyone is enjoying the first few days of summer vacation. I have a leadership update to share with you this afternoon.
Ben Goodwin has been named Bellingham High School鈥檚 new principal聽for next school year. Mr. Goodwin is currently an assistant principal and Career and Technical Education (CTE) director at Ferndale High School, a position he has held for four years. Prior to Ferndale, he taught math, leadership and various CTE courses for ten years at Bellingham High School. During his time in BPS, he also served on multiple districtwide committees, coached 10 seasons of athletics and participated in our Aspiring Administrators program. As a leadership teacher, he was especially proud of helping found the 鈥淲E [are] BHS鈥 initiative, which promotes belonging and inclusion schoolwide.
Mr. Goodwin has a bachelor鈥檚 degree in mathematics education and physics from the University of Washington (UW), a master鈥檚 degree in teaching from Western Washington University, and an educational administration degree from UW. He is known for his proven track record of collaborative leadership, his student-centered decision-making, and his deep commitment to equity and the core tenets of The 一本道app, particularly 鈥渁ll students should be loved.鈥
Mr. Goodwin and his family live in Bellingham and he has two elementary-aged children who attend our schools. He will begin his role this summer, joining the strong leadership team in place at Bellingham High, including assistant principals Nikki Lockhart, who is joining BHS from KMS, and Chris Carlson.
I would like to thank the BHS parents, students and staff who participated in the interview process. We had outstanding candidates, and it was a thorough process that included gathering input from Bellingham families and staff about their desired characteristics in a new principal.
Please join me in welcoming Mr. Goodwin back to Bellingham Public Schools and wishing outgoing principal Marty Atkins all the best in his new role in the Department of Teaching and Learning.
Greg Baker
