No-Cost Meals and Other Benefits at School

The Child Nutrition Eligibility & Education Benefit (CNEEB) Application may qualify you for: meal benefits, Summer EBT benefits (if enrolled in a NSLP/SBP school), reduced fees for other programs and activities, and/or help secure funding for your school district. If your child(ren) are enrolled in a Community Eligibility Provision (CEP) school, completing this application will not impact your eligibility to receive meals at no cost.

  • Review the income guidelines to confirm eligibility and then complete the online application. Paper applications are available at your school site or contact food services 360-676-6504.

Alderwood, Birchwood, Carl Cozier, Cordata, Happy Valley, Northern Heights, Roosevelt, and Sunnyland Elementary Schools; Fairhaven, Shuksan, and Whatcom Middle Schools; Options and Squalicum High Schools are Community Eligibility Provision (CEP)

  • Enrolled students automatically qualify for one breakfast and one lunch daily at no-cost without completing an application
  • Complete the Child Nutrition Eligibility & Education Benefit (CNEEB) Application to qualify for non-meal benefits

Columbia, Geneva, Lowell, Parkview, Silver Beach, Wade King Elementary Schools; Kulshan Middle School; Bellingham and Sehome High Schools.

  • At these schools, students who qualify via the Child Nutrition Eligibility & Education Benefit (CNEEB)聽Application are eligible for one breakfast and one lunch daily at no-cost

Direct Certification

Students who are directly certified for free/reduced meals through DSHS DO NOT need to complete a Child Nutrition Eligibility & Education Benefit Application. Families are welcome to contact food services to confirm their direct certification before completing paperwork.

 

The school meal application聽is used to determine other federal nutritional assistance and education funding, making it critical parents participate so the district can count all qualified students.

Students with qualifying information under the application may also qualify for other non-meal benefits like SUN Bucks and free activity or test fees.

Students who qualify for reduced price meals will not have a co-pay; they will receive meals at no cost.

Household and individual information is confidential and only those who are authorized have access to it.

Households may apply for benefits at any time during the school year, although there may be specific dates for benefits like SUN Bucks; please inquire if you need more information about eligibility dates.

Household members do not need to be US citizens for students to qualify for no-cost meals.

Completing the meal eligibility application has no impact on immigration status.

*Note: CEP school students and free/reduced eligible students receive one breakfast and/or one lunch per day. Students may not charge a second meal to an account with a zero or negative balance.

Procedure for Handling Complaints of Discrimination
SUN Bucks

SUN Bucks is a new program to help families buy food for their school-aged children during the summer. Families will get $120 for each eligible child to buy groceries during the summer. Children who get SUN Bucks can still participate in other summer meal programs. Receiving SUN Bucks will not affect children or families鈥 immigration status.

In Washington, SUN Bucks will be loaded onto an EBT card and mailed to your home. If eligible, you can use SUN Bucks benefits to buy food like fruits, vegetables, meat, whole grains, and dairy at grocery stores and other places that accept EBT benefits.

Your child is eligible for SUN Bucks if your child attends a school that offers the National School Lunch or School Breakfast Program and:

  • Already participates in SNAP, FDIPR, TANF or other programs directly certified by DSHS, or
  • Household income meets the requirements for free or reduced-price school meals

Many families will get SUN Bucks automatically if they are getting other benefits, but some families may need to apply for the program.

If your household already participates in SNAP, FDIPR, TANF, your child will automatically be enrolled in the SUN Bucks program. You do not need to fill out an application.

If you are not automatically enrolled and believe your child(ren) is eligible, please complete an application according to the directions below.
