A Message from the Department of Communications and Community Relations

Earlier this spring, Squalicum High School鈥檚 brand-new class, Latinos in Action, took the Gold Award, the highest award given, at the Latinos in Action Youth Leadership Conference held at Skagit Valley College. The Squalicum students outperformed every other Latinos in Action class in Washington, quite a feat for a class that just started in September.聽聽

 

In late April at the 46th annual International Bridge Building Competition, BHS senior Sora Dionne took first place overall and BHS sophomore Rylan Beal took second place overall, beating out 53 other national and international highly skilled competitors. Dionne also won the Architectural Award for his superior design and craftsmanship. Sora鈥檚 bridge carried 4800 times its weight and Rylan鈥檚 carried 4717 times its weight . .

 

BPS high school environmental clubs from Bellingham, Sehome and Squalicum joined second graders at Geneva Elementary School to help plant their new rain garden on Earth Day 2024. Installed in fall 2023 by Northwest Rain Solutions, the rain garden is adjacent to the playground and field and hardscape. The native plants and trees will serve as a natural filtration system before storm water runoff ends up in Lake Whatcom, the source of our community鈥檚 drinking water聽.聽聽
