A Message from the Department of Teaching and Learning
As part of our periodic series “What’s Up Doc,” Superintendent Greg Baker sat down recently with Squalicum High School Campus Monitor Dionte Thomas, Shuksan Middle School Principal Alli Chryst and Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning Jay Jordan.
This time, Dr. Baker interviewed staff to learn more about how our schools approach student discipline and how our staff intervene in complex situations to keep students safe and our schools welcoming and inclusive.
Student discipline is about a lot more than consequences and suspensions, and we invite you to learn from these experts about the connections between welcoming and safe schools, strong boundaries and communication, partnership with families and our community, and developmentally-appropriate student discipline.
Topics covered include misunderstandings about student discipline, bias and hate intervention, differences in our approach between grade levels, swift responses to safety issues, and positive school culture and relationships.
